Summer Programs

Schedule for the 15th Annual Richmond Summer Harp Institute and 2nd Annual Maryland Summer Harp Institute.

MSHI Week July 19 - July 23, 2010
(harp beginners half day / intermediate and advanced full day)

Daily Schedule (half day) Monday - Friday

  • 9:00-10:00 Harp Ensemble / Group Lesson
  • 10:00-11:00 Music History / Dalcroze Rhythmic Movement Activities
  • 11:00-12:00 Harp Ensemble / Practice Time with Individual Attention

Special Events Half-Day Participants

  • On Friday, at the conclusion of the Institute, there will be a final "works in progress" concert for families at 11:15AM.
  • All are welcome to attend the Community Barbeque at St. Paul's Utica Lutheran Church on Friday, July 23rd at 6PM. MSHI Participants will receive complimentary admission. Additional tickets available for $7.50 at the door.

  • 9:00-12:00 [Same as Morning Half-day schedule]
  • 12:00-1:00 Lunch
  • 1:00 1:45 Harp Ensemble
  • 1:45-2:30 Seminars/Workshops
  • 2:30-3:15 Individual Lessons/Practice Time
  • 3:15-4:00 Chamber Music/ Harp Ensemble

Special Events Full-Day Participants

  • Cultural Excursions in historic Frederick, Maryland.
  • On Friday, at the conclusion of the Institute, there will be a final "works in progress" concert for families at 4:30PM.
  • Full-day participants are also invited to the Community Barbeque for MSHI Participants (see above).

WEEK 1 July 26 - July 30, 2010
(new to harp beginners only/ half day)

Daily Schedule Monday - Friday

  • 9:00-9:50 Harp Ensemble/ Group Lesson
  • 9:50-10:00 Break
  • 10:00-10:30 Exploration of the Musical Ages
  • 10:30-11:00 Practice Time with Individual Attention
  • 11:00-11:15 Dalcroze Rhythmic Movement Activities
  • 11:15-12:00 Harp Ensemble

Special Event Week 1
On Friday, at the conclusion of the Institute, there will be a final “works in progress” concert and reception for families.

WEEK 2 August 2 - 6, 2010

Special Events Weeks 2 and 3

  • Tour of Agecroft Hall, a 15th Century English Tudor Estate in the RSHI neighborhood, www.agecrofthall.com
  • Excursion to nearby, eclectic shopping/dining area of Carytown www.carytown.org.
  • On Friday, at the conclusion of each week of the Institute, there will be a final “works in progress” concert and reception for families.
  • Social activities.
