The MSHI is an an incredible musical experience! The combination of an outstanding faculty, the beautiful and historic setting in Frederick, Maryland, a rich musical environment and talented students from across the United States makes the Institute an exciting, memorable and rewarding experience. The MSHI offers a supportive and inspiring musical environment for the student artist.

Most importantly, harp students of all levels, from beginners to advanced are welcome. Institute options, half and full-day, and repertoire selections are tailored to match student abilities. Students will receive instruction on both pedal and lever harps and emphasis will be placed on the development of effective practice skills, memorization techniques, ensemble/chamber music skills and performance etiquette. Each day will include individual attention and practice, harp ensemble, music history and musicianship classes. All harp students will participate in the MSHI Harp Ensemble. A concert of ensemble music will conclude the week.

William Jackson of Glasgow has been at the forefront of Scottish traditional music for nearly 30 years. In addition to his stature as one of the leading harpers and multi-instrumentalists in Scotland. His "Land of Light" won the international competition in 1999 as the new song for Scotland, announced on the eve of that Parliament was convening for the first time in 300 years.

Gráinne Hambly comes from County Mayo in the west of Ireland. As a solo musician, she has performed on various occasions in Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Israel and Japan as well as touring extensively in the United States, giving concerts, workshops and masterclasses at various festivals and summerschools world-wide.
