The relationships developed between the mentors and their financially, mentally, or physically disadvantaged protégés are socially and developmentally positive for both mentor and protégé. Mentors gain leadership skills, learn the value of good citizenship and of giving back to the community, and develop compassion for and an understanding of other less fortunate students, often from sections of our society they might otherwise never see. This experience builds self confidence and maturity, and helps them develop into aware, caring, and confident leaders and role models.
