The American Youth Harp Ensemble strives to use Music Education as a means to develop children by developing programs and performance opportunities for youth, regardless of financial means, and utilizing the harp as a catalyst for personal growth and community service.
AYHE provides opportunites to use the harp, regardless of background or financial means, as a catalyst for positive change in our students' lives, and is recognized nationally and internationally. Current program offerings include the following:

Harp TherapyHarp Therapy
The Harp Therapy Outreach Program offers harp and music instruction to at-risk youth and students with mental and physical disabilities, including mental retardation, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Down’s Syndrome, and other emotional and neurological disorders.  more

Heavenly HarpsHeavenly Harps
Heavenly Harps is a conservatory preparation program that teaches music performance on a professional level through advanced repertoire study, music history, theory, aural skills and the business aspects of being a performing artist.  more

Mentorship ProgramMentorship Program
A unique community service program, the Mentorship Program partners AYHE students with students in our Outreach Programs.  more

Richmond Summer Harp InstituteRichmond Summer Harp Institute
Now in it’s twelfth year, the Richmond Summer Harp Institute offers three weeks of intensive study of the harp, with immersion in both its solo and ensemble literature.  more

Our students are diverse and representative of our region, and come from various schools in Richmond and the surrounding counties, as well as from homeschooling environments. Forty-nine percent are African-American, forty-nine percent are Caucasian, one percent is Hispanic and one percent is Asian.

All three of our graduating students this year have been accepted as harp majors to top music conservatories, and have received a phenomenal combined scholarship offerings totaling over $200,000. It is clear the experiences provided by the HARPS Foundation will have a life-long impact.
